Overview

Aberdare station sits connects Cardiff and Barry with the Valley towns. The station, originally known as Aberdare High Level was originally opened in 1851 to serve the Vale of Neath line, however, the current service only became available at this station in 1988. From the station platform, you can see one of the original red brick station buildings, although it is now being used for a very different purpose having been redeveloped as part of the campus for the new Coleg y Cymoedd Aberdare. Despite the station's small size, and it being a single platform station, nearly 600,000 passengers travel through the station annually.
